Technical Visit in Hong Kong: Tseung Kwun O Desalination Plant

The Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant (TKODP) is one of the strategic infrastructures by Water Supplies Department in its mission to provide reliable and adequate supply of wholesome potable water which is not susceptible to climate change. Upon commissioning of the First Stage of TKODP, the production capacity of potable water is around 135 million litres per day (Mld), equivalent to 5% of daily freshwater consumption in Hong Kong, with future expansion to ultimate capacity of 270 Mld. To keep our delegates abreast of the cutting-edge technology development on the engineering front, a technical visit is arranged for our participants to learn more about the advanced technologies and processes implemented at the facility in understanding the following aspects:

    • The desalination process and technologies used; and
    • Energy efficiency measures and sustainability practices; and
    • Operational challenges and solutions
