Call for Papers for Special Session on
“Harnessing Renewables and Machine Intelligence in Smart Grids” (SS3)
Organised by
Prof. S. C. Chan (scchan@eee.hku.hk)
Affiliation: The University of Hong Kong
Theme:
This special session invites researchers and practitioners to examine the latest advancements in sustainable energy systems, including cutting-edge data-driven intelligence, innovative data generation algorithms and analytics for effective energy management, system monitoring, and control. Key topics also include demand response strategies and forecasting techniques that enhance grid flexibility and reliability. Additionally, we will examine the role of renewable power generation and storage technologies in supporting a sustainable energy future, alongside the application of electric vehicles and their charging infrastructure. The development of networked microgrid systems, which facilitate decentralized energy distribution, will also be a focal point. Finally, we encourage discussions on innovative education approaches that prepare future professionals to tackle the challenges and opportunities in this rapidly evolving field, fostering a holistic understanding of smart grid. This session will cover topics including but not limited to:
- Sustainable energy systems
- Data driven intelligence and data generation algorithms
- Energy management, system monitoring and control
- Demand response and demand forecasting
- Renewable power generation and storage
- Application of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure
- Networked microgrid systems
- Innovative education for power systems and smart grid
Organiser:
Prof. S. C. Chan (Member, IEEE) received the B.Sc. (Eng.) and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, in 1986 and 1992, respectively. Since 1994, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Hong Kong, where he is currently a Professor and the Associate Dean (Masters) of the Faculty of Engineering.
